Pop-Up Mess Success

A ‘Pop-Up Mess’ has raised £350 for our Medal Room Improvement Project.

Visitors enjoyed a variety of homemade cakes and savouries, courtesy of museum volunteers and the Veterans’ Artisan Bakery in the stunning surroundings of The Normanby Room.

The event was part of Love Being Local Day on Saturday (30 March) which saw Richmondshire residents making the most of free entry to the town’s attractions. It’s estimated about 1000 people enjoyed being ‘doorstep tourists’ for the day; visiting the museum, Georgian Theatre Experience, Richmond Castle and Richmondshire Museum.

“Our pop-up café proved really popular, and we’re so grateful to everyone who came and ate cake,” says Museum Director, Lynda Powell. “Our much loved Medal Room is currently undergoing a total transformation. The re-development is allowing us to put even more medals out on display and tell more of the stories of the people who earned them. We can’t wait to reveal the improvements to museum visitors when our new Medal Room opens on 12 May.”

You can support the museum’s Medal Room Improvement Project by attending an event or talk, buying from the gift shop or making a donation.
