The Yorkshiremen who fell to earth

Thu, 30 May 2024 7pm

The Yorkshiremen who fell to earth tells the story of a lesser known part of the regiment’s D-Day story.

In June 1943 the 10th Battalion of the Green Howards became the 12th (Yorkshire) Parachute Regiment.

A year later, they dropped into Normandy on D-Day and were given the job of taking and holding the village of Ranville, in support of the famous attack on Pegasus Bridge.

They also went on to fight during the last desperate German offensive in the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944.

This Museum Talk explores both of these relatively unheralded actions, and confirms the adaptability, tenacity and fighting ability of the Yorkshiremen who came from the sky and who fought from Normandy to the Baltic.

Tickets: £5.

Booking essential. Call 01748 826561 or book online.
