Letters, diaries and paperwork form an important part of the museum collection. This section of the website is currently being developed to give you a feel for the range of fascinating items we hold in our care. We’ve selected items from our collection of personal archive under four broad headings; letters, diaries, sketchbooks and artwork, scrapbooks and albums.
It is by no means a catalogue or database. Instead, we have chosen archive belonging to individuals whose lives we have learned something of via the material donated to the museum. Most of our personal archive remains in the sanctuary of our special light and temperature controlled stores, and is never on display to museum visitors, so we hope you will enjoy being able to access some of it online.
