The Green Howards Trust are looking to recruit the following role:

Marketing Officer

Responsible to: CEO/Head of Commercial
Contract: 21 hours a week, 1 year contract (with possible extension or permanency)
Salary: £23,000 per annum (pro rata, dependent on experience)
Location: The Green Howards Museum, Richmond, North Yorkshire (with occasional travel)

Who are the Green Howards?

The Green Howards was an active regiment until 2006, when it amalgamated to form the Royal Yorkshire Regiment. With a heritage spanning over 300 years and over 35,000 artefacts chronicling the lives of thousands of soldiers, The Green Howards Museum celebrates legacies of loyalty, discipline, courage, and camaraderie in war and in peace.

By telling inspiring stories, hosting vibrant events, and creating dynamic exhibitions, we are committed to respectfully preserving the integrity of our collection whilst illuminating and honouring our military heritage for both current and future generations.

What we need

We are seeking a creative, energetic, and organised Marketing Officer to raise the profile of the Green Howards Trust and Museum, attract new audiences, and grow our visitor numbers. You will lead on all aspects of our marketing and communications, from social media and digital content to press relations, print materials, and connecting with our wider military family and communities.

This is a hands-on role with significant scope for creativity and innovation. You will work closely with the Head of Commercial in particular, as well as staff and volunteers to develop and deliver engaging campaigns that connect people of all ages and backgrounds with our military heritage.

What you will do

Strategy & Planning

Develop and implement an annual marketing and communications plan aligned with the museum’s strategic objectives and new forward plan.

Identify target audiences and develop tailored messaging and campaigns to grow visitor numbers and engagement.

Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of marketing activity and adjust plans accordingly.

Manage the marketing budget, ensuring best value and reporting on expenditure.

Digital & Social Media

Manage and grow the museum’s presence across social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Youtube and TikTok.

Create compelling and accessible content including text, photography, short video, and reels.

Maintain and update the museum website, ensuring content is current, accessible, and SEO-optimised.

Develop and manage the museum’s e-newsletter and email marketing campaigns via Mailchimp.

Analyse digital performance data (Google Analytics, social insights) and use findings to improve engagement and produce detailed reports for Trust meetings.

Press & Public Relations

Collate and analyse visitor feedback.

Build and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national media.

Write and distribute press releases, media packs, and editorial features for events, activities and museum good news stories.

Respond to media enquiries and arrange journalist visits and interviews as appropriate.

Print & Promotional Materials

Commission, write, and proof-read printed materials including leaflets, posters, event programmes, and exhibition guides.

Maintain the museum’s visual identity and ensure brand consistency across all materials.

Liaise with designers and printers and manage associated relationships.

Partnerships & Community Engagement

Develop partnerships with local tourism bodies, Visit England, Welcome to Yorkshire, and Richmond and Richmondshire area organisations.

Support education and outreach programmes with appropriate marketing and promotional activity.

General

Work collaboratively with all museum team members and Friends of the Green Howards Museum.

Contribute to the wider work of the museum as required, including occasional weekend and evening working around special events, such as Green Howards Sunday (May).

Comply with all museum policies, including those on data protection (GDPR), accessibility, and equality.
