Waterloo Uncovered Finds Programme

A new programme at the Green Howards Museum is bringing remarkable archaeological discoveries from the Waterloo Battlefield directly to veterans and serving military personnel in the Richmond community.

The Waterloo Uncovered Finds Programme brings archaeological objects excavated on the Waterloo Battlefield to veterans and serving military personnel in the Richmond community. At six workshops at the Green Howards Museum, beneficiaries will learn key skills from leading archaeologists, whilst handling unique discoveries from the battlefield. They will also connect with local heritage, gaining techniques shown to improve wellbeing. The programme ends with a local outreach day for veterans to showcase their work to family, friends and the general public.

The sessions combine practical learning with opportunities to engage with local heritage, offering techniques that have been shown to support wellbeing and connection.

Through close interaction with historic objects and professional archaeologists, participants will explore the stories behind the finds and develop new skills in a supportive, welcoming environment.

This initiative forms part of the Green Howards Museum’s wider veteran outreach programme, which aims to engage and connect veterans with local history and the community around them.
