Keeping going during Covid 19

The museum is closed due to Covid 19.  It’s a massive blow as we had so much planned for this spring, which we now will not be able to do in the way we originally wanted.  But in the grand scheme of things, that’s not as important as everyone keeping safe and well.

The museum team is currently working remotely, so whilst we don’t have anywhere for you to physically visit, there is a lot still going on behind the scenes.

Keep in touch

Family history research

If you are considering spending some unexpected free time looking into your service relative’s background, now is the perfect time to do so!

Our researcher continues to work on your queries and this service will continue unchanged during the current closure period.  Have a read of our family history research page to help you get started.

Exhibitions

Our next special exhibition, due to start on 4 April, has been delayed indefinitely.  However, our work to get this fabulous exploration of our vast collection up and running is ongoing.  When we re-open, Treasures in Store will launch.

In the meantime, we’re going to be bringing you regular content relating to this exhibition while we are closed.  We’re just getting everything ready and should be able to reveal all soon.

We are also working to bring you two online exhibitions, featuring key events of 80 years ago; the German invasion of Norway and the retreat to Dunkirk.

Home schooling

Hats off to everyone who is trying to educate their children at home.  What a challenge.

We’ve created some content to help you out.  It’s going to grow and grow – we’re really excited about it.

The aim is that it’s informative and entertaining, as well as sparking off some debate, conversation and maybe some further research in your house.  If it helps for just five minutes, that’s a win!

Help us out

Our online shop remains open for the moment.  Delivery may take longer than usual, but your orders will help the museum’s financial situation hugely during this difficult time.

We’ve put together a special pack of ten of our lovely greetings cards.  We thought it might be a good way of supporting us and cheering someone up at the same time.  Take a look.

Future events

Thank you to everyone who had a booking for an event or Museum Talk that has had to be postponed. We’ve now spoken to you all and the majority are happy to hang on and wait for our events to be rescheduled.

Our volunteers

Our wonderful team of volunteers are still helping while we are closed.  They’re keeping busy with transcriptions, medal recipient research and cataloguing.  Doing it all from home and are telling us that it’s helping them keep some structure and routine, as well as the help it is giving us.  They are a brilliant bunch.

Donate if you can

If you are able to donate, we would really appreciate it.  It’s incredibly easy.  You can do it here.
