We were delighted to welcome Walter Burke to the museum.

Born in 1918, Walter served in the Second World War with the 7th Battalion, fighting through France, North Africa and Italy, before being taken prisoner in Sicily in 1943.

Mark Burke has written “The Nine Lives of Private Burke” (available on Amazon) based on his grandfather’s wartime reminiscences.

Walter presented a copy of the book to new museum volunteer Andy – not a bad experience for a first day!
