Festival Talk at GHM

We’re thrilled that our Specialist Regimental Researcher, Steve Erskine, has been invited to a give a talk for the Richmond Walking and Book Festival in September!

Inspired by the novels of Jane Austen and intriguingly titled ‘Sighing for a Soldier: The Lure of the Scarlet Coatee’, Steve’s talk will explore the pleasures, opportunities and pitfalls of life in the North York Militia in the 1800s for young men from local families – a rather adventurous way of life that no doubt included the irresistible attentions of the local female population!
