Donkeys at the Museum

10.00- 15.00

Join us for a special day as we welcome Marie Bates’ wonderful Blackberry Donkeys from the Long Ears Donkey Centre! Visitors can meet and stroke these gentle animals, see authentic wartime pack saddles and VE War brasses, and discover the incredible role donkeys played in military history.

This event is part of our popular Animal Allies Exhibition, which honours the bravery of animals in wartime, from WWI to modern-day conflicts.
Also on display: beautifully crafted Purple Poppies from The Donkey Breed Society’s Northern Region, highlighting the sacrifices made by animals in war and peacekeeping missions.

Sarah Booth from The Donkey Breed Society shares:
“An estimated 16 million animals took part in WWI, showing astonishing bravery. Even today, donkeys are used in conflict zones around the world. We’re grateful to The Green Howards Museum for showcasing our collection as part of the Animal Allies Exhibition.”
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to connect with history in a truly special way!
