We’ll be showcasing our footballing links over the course of EURO2016, with a series of profiles featuring personalities from the past…
RANDOLPH SEPTIMUS GALLOWAY served with the Green Howards during The First World War and appears regularly in the Green Howards Gazette starring in various regimental football teams.
He went on to play professionally for Derby County, Nottingham Forest, Luton Town, Coventry City and Tottenham Hotspur.
In 1929 he moved into management, spending this part of his career exclusively abroad managing teams such as Sporting Gijon, Valencia, Racing Santander and Sporting Lisbon.
In the 1931 encounter between Barcelona and Valencia, both teams were managed by men from the North-East of England.
Our own Randolph Galloway (left) with Valencia, and Jack Greenwell for Barcelona.
