No, not a scene from the classic Stallone and Caine cinematic delight, ‘Escape to Victory’ but a real-life team line up from a Prisoner of War football match.
Taken at Stalag IV-B, near Muhlberg in Germany on 24 June 1944, the picture shows the teams of Amateurs v Professionals drawn from camp inmates, along with the match officials, just prior to kick-off.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
