Car pennants

Car pennants collected by a national serviceman during his time as a driver have been donated to the museum.

Colin Harrod served with the regiment between 1947 and 1949 in Egypt, during which time he drove three Generals: Lt Gen Sir George Erskin, Lt Gen E N Gale and Major Gen Murray. He saved the pennants for each of the generals, as well as his military driving license.

Colin’s daughter Pauline visited the museum to donate the pennants, license, medals and photographs of her father to our collection.

Pauline’s son, James Simpson joined The Yorkshire Regiment. He was injured in Afghanistan in 2009 whilst serving with the 1st Battalion.

James now plays wheelchair rugby for Leeds Rhinos. Find out more about him here.
