Bomb Happy

Green Howards Normandy veteran Ken Cooke will see his D-Day experiences played out on stage.

‘Bomb Happy’, which is being performed at a variety of Yorkshire venues later this year, including Richmond’s Georgian Theatre Royal on 13 October 2017, brings to life the verbatim memories of five York Normandy Veterans who, as young lads from York, Leeds, Sheffield and London, find themselves part of one of the most important military operations of World War Two.

Ken was 18 when he was called up for service in December 1943. He left his parents’ home in York and after six weeks initial training joined The Green Howards.

We’ve had the pleasure of meeting Ken here at the museum on several occasions; bringing his story and the experiences of his friends to the stage is such a great project.

Ken and his friends will attend the performances and meet audiences after each show.  He was recently interviewed by the Yorkshire Post.
