International War Animal Day

24th February is International War Animal Day which recognises and honours the crucial role animals have played in wars and conflicts.

The purple poppy commemorates all animals who lost their lives, the purple poppy is a symbol used to remember the animals that served, suffered, and often died in wartime, from horses, donkeys and carrier pigeons in WWI to working dogs and service animals more recently.
