Vacancy: Retail & Events Manager

Applications are being sought for the position of Retail & Events Manager at The Green Howards Museum.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the Green Howards Museum is based in the centre of Richmond, North Yorkshire.  It tells the amazing personal stories of the soldiers who served with the Green Howards regiment, which was formed in 1688, and houses the regiment’s collection of rare uniforms, medals, kit equipment, art, silver and personal.  Set over 3 floors, the museum was completely refurbished in 2014.

We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Retail and Events Manager to increase audience engagement with the Green Howards Museum and to grow both our revenue-generating and fundraising activities.  The role is key to helping deliver the aims and objectives of the Museum.

Working in the heart of Richmond, North Yorkshire, this is an exciting opportunity to grow the retail and events offering at this dynamic museum.  This new position is being created in order to increase the profile and sales of the existing museum shop and to expand the range of income generating events that are held and will suit a creative and pro-active individual with a can-do attitude.

The role includes:

  • Creating and delivering a retail strategy in order to maximise the museum shop’s sales and profitability
  • Creating sales reports and analysing sales and stock data
  • Ordering new products and managing stock levels
  • Planning the rota to make sure the museum shop is staffed as needed
  • Leading the retail team to achieve agreed objectives and maintain the high levels of customer service and ensuring the shop remains tidy and well presented
  • Managing the online shop and ensuring that online orders are dispatched in a timely manner
  • Ensuring accurate record keeping for Gift Aid tax reclaim purposes
  • Making sure the retail EPOS system is correct and operational at all times
  • Overseeing all financial aspects of the shop, including cash handling
  • Creating a program of events to promote the museum throughout the year
  • Producing action plans for events; gathering quotes from suppliers, coordinating the days, and troubleshooting on the day of the event to ensure that all runs smoothly.
  • Volunteer recruitment and training for events when necessary.
  • Pre and post event liaison with donors
  • Collaborating with other organisations to enlarge our events offering
  • Monitoring performance of commercial activities using key metrics and preparing reports for the Trustees
  • Working on business development activities, evaluating risks and opportunities of potential projects alongside the Chief Executive
  • Managing the performance of customer relationships and identifying opportunities for growth
  • Working alongside the Marketing and Communications Manager to promote both the retail and event offerings through social media and online
  • Managing both the retail and event budgets
  • Working with the Chief Executive to ensure that the health and safety of customers and staff within the Museum is maintained to the highest of standards.

Salary:             £27,000 – £29,000 pro rata

Hours:             21 hours per week

Holiday:           25 days plus bank holidays pro rata
