Online learning sessions

We’ve created some online learning resources for you to try at home.

  • The First World War (2 parts)
  • VE Day flags
  • Norway 1940

We think we know when the First World War was, right?  Take a closer look at the medals awarded at the time and you’ll see how it all gets a little confusing.  Our Learning Officer, Carl wants you to track down evidence to help us settle on an end date.  Where will you look to find the answers?  Click the image to watch the video and add your comments below it.

DATES OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR (part two – evidence of the end)

What evidence did you find to help you find out the actual date of the end of the First World War.  Newspapers, war memorials, and the peace treaty itself all give different dates, so how do we know when it actually ended?  Click the image to watch the video and add your comments below it.

April 2020 marks the 80th anniversary of the German invasion of Norway during the Second World War.

Green Howards soldiers were sent to Norway to try to push the Germans back, but they didn’t succeed.  We’ve created a special online exhibition, where you can find out what happened and see some of the objects the museum has from the time.

The exhibition includes some great video and images from our archive, so take a look and imagine being sent to fight in Norway in April, 80 years ago!

Once you have looked at the exhibition, test your new knowledge and do some more research with our special Norway quiz (you can also find a link to the quiz at end of the exhibition page).
