Museum volunteer, Paul Goad has developed a special interest in the role of a specific group of soldiers during his research for the museum’s D Day exhibition.
At this museum talk, Paul will share the story of 161 Reconnaissance Regiment (the 12th Battalion of the Green Howards.) Formed in August 1942 their role was to go ahead of any advance, gather information on enemy strength and relay that back to HQ. Relying on stealth and surprise, this was a vital and dangerous task for the soldiers forging ahead into the Normandy countryside in the summer of 1944.
