This page is set aside for items relating to the history of the Green Howards where the published items help to "flesh out" the written history of the regiment.

An account of the actions of the 6th and 7th Battalions of the Green Howards on D-Day, and immediately after D-Day, is provided. It was during this fighting that CSM Stanley Hollis of the 6th Battalion earned his Victoria Cross, - the only one to be awarded on D-Day.

Thus, the story of Patrick McNamara and the 19th Foot between 1847 and 1870 provides not only a glimpse as to how the regiment were involved in those years, but also relates to family history research that has been made into the man's life.

The Casualty Roll for the Crimean War is placed here for the same reasons, - namely that it part of the regiment's history, but it also provides valuable data for those researching their family history.
