The Friends of the Green Howards website was established to provide information on the Green Howards. Although some information on the 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards) will be carried on this website, the main purpose of the Friends website will be to provide historical information on the Green Howards. This information will include not only the history of the regiment, but will also include subject material relating to the Museum and, most importantly, the Association of Green Howards, - those who have served in the regiment.
The Friends of the Green Howards website is designed
to allow you to discover something of this famous Infantry Regiment, - whether
you are a past member of the Regiment, thinking of joining the 2nd Battalion
Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards), a historian, interested in your family history,
or are simply fascinated by military matters.

you will have no difficulty in finding your information.

The History of the Green Howards is well covered. In addition
to a brief chronological history of the Green Howards from its raising
in 1688 to 2006, the Regiment's Battle Honours are listed.
There is a section dealing with the medals won by members of the Green Howards,
with biographies of all those who won either the Victoria Cross or the George
Cross.
One very valuable section of this Web site is the section devoted to the publication
of the Diaries and Service Journals of soldiers who served with the Green
Howards.
Diaries covering active service in the Crimea (1854 - 1856), British India (1857
- 1872) and the Boer War (1899 - 1901) are available for historians and genealogists
to read and enjoy.
The Museum houses material illustrating every period of the Green
Howard's history. In addition to the Victoria and George Crosses mentioned
above, there are over 3000 other medals won by the Green Howards on display
in the Museum, including the medals won by Private Tandy. Private Henry Tandy,
won the VC, DCM, and MM plus 5 Mention in Despatches.
If you would like to help the work of the Museum by becoming a Friend,
details can be found in this section.
The Friends publish a regular Newsletter, each edition of which is packed
with historical information about the Regiment. The contents of each
issue of the Newsletter are described.
Researching ancestral military history is extremely popular nowadays.
Regular enquiries are made by idividuals to the Museum, asking about
the careers of relatives or ancestors in the 19th Foot or the Green Howards.
However, it is essential before any enquiries are made that as many details
as possible are known about the individual's Army record; for instance, - Army
number, rank, dates of service, battalion served in.
This section of the Web site is provided in order to give as much help as possible
to those who are researching the military careers of their ancestors or relatives,
so that before approaching the Museum they have obtained as much information
as possible beforehand.
In this section, You can find
