N.B.   Details of the availability of service records of the First World period are too complex to detail here, and researchers should obtain up-to-date information from the Public Record Office.

THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES (PUBLIC RECORD OFFICE)

Holds extant records of regular soldiers and officers whose service ended in or before 1920, pay lists, muster rolls, records of pensioners of the Royal Hospital at Chelsea and Kilmainham (some of the latter are also held by the National Archives of Ireland), medal rolls for campaigns 1793 - 1918, citations for gallantry awards, and War diaries for both World Wars.
